Equilibria 2 Electric Boogaloo Flashcards
What is a reversible reaction
Where the products formed can react and create the original reactant
What is the first condition for equilibria
Must be in a closed system
What is the second condition for equilibrium
Equilibrium can be approached from either direction and the final equilibrium state will be the same
What is the third condition for equilibria
Equilibrium is a dynamic process as it’s when both reactions are at the same rate
What is the forth condition for equilibria
You know its in equilibria when nothing in the system changes eg density, concentration, colour and pressure
Le chateliers principle
If a system at equilibrium is disturbed, the equilibrium moves in the direction that tends to reduce the disturbance
How does changing the concentration of a reactant affect position of equilibrium
If you increase on you will increase the other side as it will react to balance the higher concentration
How does changing pressure affect the position of equilibrium
It will reduce the side within more particles (moles) as it tries to decrease pressure
How does increasing temperature affect position of equilibrium
If you increase temperature it will move to reduce temperature to cool the system down
How does a catalyst affect position of equilibrium
It doesn’t it only affects rate of attainment
