What is direct discrimination?
A
Where A treats B less favourably because of a protected characteristic they have (or because they thought B had one, or because B is associated with another person who has one)

A
A blanket policy that disadvantages people with a protected characteristic

Can direct and indirect discrimination ever be justified?
A
Yes (only on grounds of age and disability for direct discrimination), if the measure is a proportionate means to achieve a legitimate aim (e.g. business needs in indirect discrimination)
