EQ3 Assessment (glaciation) Flashcards
2.7 - Evidence of movement for Roche moutonnées
Striation marks on a Roche moutonnée show what direction the glacier was moving in as they are parallel to ice flow.
The direction the upslope stoss end is pointing in shows what direction the glacier was moving in.
2.7 - issues with using Roche moutonnées
It can be difficult to identify these landforms in the field because they may be modified and confused by multiple glaciations, post-glacial weathering and erosion, as well as human activities. This means several landforms must be studied for accurate reconstruction.
2.7 - Evidence of movement for crag and tails
The tail of the crag and tail, which is also the down-sloping lee end, faces in the same direction the glacier was moving in.
2.7 - Evidence of extent for crag and tails
The size of the gap created from the erosion of weaker rock may indicate the size of the glacier that moved through the rock.
