Q

Assess the extent to which one or more countries that you have studied is energy secure (12marks)PARA 1-UK negative

A

PARA 1:
POINT-UK is an example of a country which is energy insecure. Declining domestic North Sea oil+gas reserves have made the uk increasingly dependent on imported energy. Bc the UK now imports more energy than it produces domestically, the country has an energy deficit and is energy insecure
EV- In 2010 1/3 of UK’s imports consisted of crude oil and 50% of that came from Norway. Also uk imports 98% of its liquid gas from Qatar
EX- demonstrates its dependence on other countries to import energy reinforcing idea that it is anenergy insecure country

Q

Assess the extent to which one or more countries that you have studied is energy secure (12marks)PARA 2-UK positive

A

POINT- however, evidence suggest that UK is improving energy resources as there has been a rise in nuclear energy after the nuclear renaissance.
EX- This is where there has been a rise in nuclear energy in power stations, generating more nuclear energy. It aims to broaden its energy mix with more renewable resources in future (especially wind) as well as nuclear power plants.
EV- However, nuclear power plants are less attractive for ppl living near it so this may cause many protest as there are risks of nuclear explosions

Q

Assess the extent to which one or more countries that you have studied is energy secure (12marks)PARA 3 -NORWAY positive and negative

A

POINT- Norway is an example of an energy secure country as it supplies much of its energy whilst also exporting it to other countries.
EV- As Norway is mountainous with steep valleys and plentiful rainfall, HEP is the natural energy source. As a result, Norway is 3rd largest exporter of hydrocarbons and is expanding its output. Norse Hydro runs over 600 HEP sites, which supply 97% of Norway’s renewable electricity.
HOWEVER, some threats of Norways energy sources is climate change. The rising temps would be detrimental for energy supply as there is more meltwater (surplus) but long term that will turn into a deficit of meltwater and is will limit its resources. Also external shocks may impact energy sources (oil+gas) such as COVID or wars in countries

Q

Assess how and why 2 different countries have developed their energy mix (12 marks) PARA 1- UK

A

POINT- Uk wants to broaden its energy mix with renewable sources (especially wind) and more nuclear power)
EV- In 2015, the UK committed to a 40% reduction in domestic greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and they aim to get co2 emissions down to 7.13 tonnes per capita (down from peak at 11.5 tonnes in 1980)
EX- this demonstrates how uk is successfully reaching aims to reduce greenhouse gases and developing energy mix

Q

Assess how and why 2 different countries have developed their energy mix (12 marks) PARA 2- NORWAY

A

POINT-Norway has increased its gas uptake and so developed its technology
EV- The new tech has allowed them to extract from the North Sea and made it easier to do so. Deepwater drilling has enabled the uK to develop North Sea oil and gas extraction.
EX- indicated how it has developed its energy mix through introducing new technology

Q

Assess how and why 2 different countries have developed their energy mix (12 marks) PARA 3- UK

A

POINT- There is evidence to suggest the uK is improving its energy resource as their has been a rise in nuclear energy after the nuclear renaissance
EV- Rise in nuclear power station, generating more nuclear energy
EX-it aims to broaden its energy mix with more renewable resources in the future. Particularly wind and nuclear energy
