epoc Flashcards

1
Q

what is epoc your own definition

A

this is basically breathing fast and deep following exercise to increase the amount of O2 in the body to return to a normal state its state prior to exercise

Q

what is an o2 deficit

A

how much of your effort was anaerobic-the amount of o2 you didnt taken on board in relation to your o2 requirement during the game

Q

the fast componenet of epoc

A

the alactacid component
resynthesises atp and pc
replenish myoglobin w/ o2- this helpsnus recover and get rid of the causes of fatigue
acheived in 2-3 minutes of finishing the event-BUT 50% OF PC STORES ARE RESYNTHESISED WITHIN THE FIRST 30 SECCONDS
and it takes 1-4 litres of o2 to do this

Q

explain the slow component of epoc

A

we are trying to remove all lactic acid out of the body but we are also trying to maintain ventilation and body temp and these processes require an additional of 5-8 litres of o2 and can take from minutes to hours which i?s why we are still breathing slightly elevated after activity.

Q

what 5 things can you convert lactate into -slow component

A
lactate converts to pyruvic acid and then goes into the krebs cycle and then we get
glycogen
protein
h20
c2o
glucose

Q

additionally what else does the body do during the slow comp of epoc

A

whilst breathing remains slightly elevated due to an increase in o2 delivery to thentissues and removal of co2 from the tissues

Q

in trainnning how can we use epoc

A

cool down help reysthsise tp and pc nd maintain circulation etc
warm up an early increase in o2 will minimise o2 deficit

time outs-to catch breath
rotation of players
effective diet strategies can delay fatigue and speed up recovery
