Where is simple squamous epithelium found?
Alveoli, lining the heart, blood vessels, lymph vessels
What is the function of simple squamous?
To allow diffusion
To secrete lubricating substances
Where is simple cuboidal epithelium found?
In ducts and in kidney tubules
What is the purpose of simple cuboidal?
Secretes and absorbs
Where is simple columnar found?
Ciliated - bronchi, uterine tubes, uterus
Non ciliated - in the digestive tract and bladder
What is the function of simple columnar?
Absorbs, also secretes mucous and enzymes
Where is pseudostratified columnar found?
Trachea and much of the URT
What is the purpose of Pseudostratified columnar?
Secretes mucous, ciliated tissue moves the mucous
Where is stratified squamous found?
Mouth, oesophagus, vagina
What is the purpose of stratified squamous?
To protect against abrasion
Where is stratified cuboidal found?
Sweat glands, salivary glands and mammary glands
What is the purpose of stratified cuboidal?
Protective, secretory
Where is stratified columnar found?
The male urethra
What is the purpose of stratified columnar?
Secretes and protects
Where is transitional epithelium found?
Lining the bladder, urethra and the ureters
