Epithelial Tissue Flashcards
The equation for what makes up connective tissue, and name the two cell types and what they do
- fibroblasts- widely distributed in CT, migratory cells, to secrete components (fibres and GS), make the bottom of the BM
Adipocytes- fat cells, under skin and around organs, stores fat (triglycerides)
Where are simple squamous epithelium found?
Present at sites of filtration; kidney
Diffusion; lung
Secretion where slippery surface needed; outer layer of serous membranes, outside intestines
Mesothelium?
Forms epithelial later of serous membrane
Lines pericardial, pleural and peritoneal cavities
Endothelium?
Lines CVD/lymphatic system
Inside heart/blood vessels
Lymphatic vessels
Bowman’s capsule of kidney
Locations of Simple Cuboidal Ep?
Covers surface of ovary
Secretory part of glands, like thyroid
Lines anterior surface of capsule of lens (eye)
Secretory chambers of thyroid
Parts of kidney tubules, smaller ducts of many glands
Pancreas duct
Non-ciliated Simple Columnar Ep locations?
Lines gut mucosa from stomach to anus
Gastrointestinal tract (gut)
Ducts of glands- gall bladder
Ciliated Simple Columnar Ep. Locations?
Some bronchioles of respiratory tracts Uterine Fallopian tubes Sinuses Central canal of spinal cord Ventricles of brain
Non-keratinised Stratified Squamous Ep location?
Mouth Throat Tongue Oesophagus Anus Vagina wall
Keratinised Stratified Squamous Ep location description?
Places where mechanical stress and dehydration is an issue, makes surface tough and waterproof
What is Hyaluronidase? (Connective tissue)
An enzyme that breaks hyaluronic acid. Produced by WBC, sperm, some bacteria. Accounts for rapid spread of bacteria through CT
What are tendons?
Tendons connect muscle to bone
