Epithelial Tissue Flashcards
What does the epithelial tissue cover?
covers ALL SURFACES
what does the epithelial tissue derived from
from all embryonic layers
what are the function of the epithelial tissue?
- protection (a barrier b/w us & environment)
- tissue absorption
- secretion
- sensory
- specialized function
what is the histology of the epithelial tissue?
- closely grouped cells w/little or no intercellular substance
- capable of renewal
- bound together by BOTH cellular junctions
- desmosomes
- hemi desmosomes
- avascular (does not have circulation)
Epithelial tissue lines different parts of your body, ______ and ______ so it comes from all 3 embryonic layers.
internally; externally
how does the connective tissue renew?
the connective tissue is capable to renew through diffusion of a joining connective tissue, BUT, itself it does not have direct circulation
what is meant by desmosomes?
epithelial cell to an epithelial cell; binds to each other but they also have to bind to a basement membrane
what is meant by hemi desmosomes?
a connective tissue attachment b/w cellular and non cellular structure (an attachment b/w living and a non-living)
(e.g. gingival epithelium to the enamel)
what is meant by avascular?
does not have circulation
