Q

Simple columnar epithelium

A

one layer of very tall cells, they often have microvilli, some found in intestine have the microvilli that make up the brush border enzymes

Found in linings of stomach, intestine, excretory ducts

Q

Pseudostratified epithelium

A

all cells connected to one basal layer, some are columnar and super tall, others are shorter, the shorter often split off into tall ones, columnar cells in this often have cilia attached

Found in linings of trachea, bronchi, nasal cavity, and excretory ducts in parotid gland

Q

Stratified squamous epithelium

A

many layers of cells, notice cells near the lumen are flattened so hence the squamous nomenclature,
can be non keratinized or keratinized

found in mouth, esophagus, vagina, anus

Q

transitional epithelium AKA urothelium

A

many layers, can be domed or flattened depending on if ureters/bladders are filled with urine

The lumen cells are often called umbrella cells when they are allowed to be domed and the bladder is empty

Q

Exocrine glands, example of Uni and Multicellular

A

These secrete out of the blood, so into a lumen or onto a surface

Uni are goblet cells
Multi are salivary glands

Q

light glands in oral cavity staining

A

mucous glands, not secreting protein and are highly glycosylated so dont pick up stain

Q

Apocrine secretion

A

gland releases parts of cells cytoplasm

17
Q

holocrine secretion

A

release of entire secretory cell

18
Q

merocrine secretion

A

release of gland contents by exocytosis
