Epithelial Flashcards
Where is the epithelial tissue located?
Out layer and sits on top of other tissue.
T/F Something sits on top of epithelial tissue.
False
T/F Epithelial tissue is avascular.
True
T/F Has cellularity and is made up of tightly packed cells.
True
T/F Can’t have cilia or microvilli.
False
What are the types of epithelial tissue?
Squamous, cuboidal, columnar, transitional, simple, stratifeid
What epithelial tissue is good for diffusion?
Simple Squamous
Where is simple cuboidal located?
Kindey, glands- Excretion
Salivary, thyroid, pancreas liver- absorption
What is the function of simple cuboidal?
secretion and absoption
Where is simple squamous located?
lines inside of blood vessels, heart, capillaries, alveoli
What are the types of glands and their function?
Endocrine- makes their product (always a hormone)
and secretes it into in the matrix
Exocrine- gland secretes its products outside of itself using a duct (ex: saliva, mucous, sweat, oil)
What epithelium absorbs the most and has cilia move things?
Simple columnar
What is the location of simple columnar?
Lines uterus and fallopian tubes, stomach, intestines
What is the body’s wear and tear tissue?
Stratified squamous since it protects us from invasion and fluid loss and is found on the out layer of skin, mouth, throat
Function of psudostratified columnar?
sweep debris out of lungs and has goblet cells that produce mucin and histamine
Location of psudostratified?
lining of upper respiratory tract\
Has several layers of cells that provide greater protection and is also a secretor?
Stratified cuboidal
Found in sweat glands, pancreas, salivary glands and mammary glands?
Stratified cuboidal
Function of transitional epithelium?
Distend and return to its normal size, like the urinary bladder
Location of stratified columnar?
vas deferens
Three types of skin cancer?
basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, malignant melanoma
What is a touch protective and waterproof protein?
keratin
What are the different epithelial membranes?
Cutaneous, Mucous, Serous
Function of cutaneous membrane?
Functions like a tarp- skin
