Epithelial Flashcards
Location and function of simple squamous epithelium?
Location: lining of capillaries, aveoli (lungs), heart, lymphatic vessels.
Function: Fluid and particles to pass through tissue by diffusion and filtration. Secretes lubricating substance.
Location and function of simple columnar epithelium?
Location: bronchi, uterine tubes and uterus (ciliated). Non-ciliated found in digestive tract.
Function: Cilliated secretes mucous. Secretes enzymes.
Location and function of simple cuboidal epithelium?
Location: in ducts and secretory portions of small glands and in kidney tubules.
Function: Secretes and absorbs.
Location and function of pseudostratified columnar epithelium?
Location: ciliated tissues lining the trachea and much of the upper respiratory tract.
Function: Mucociliary Escalator.
Location and function of stratified squamous epithelium?
Location: Lines oesophaegus, mouth, vagina, skin, anus, uterine cervix, pharynx.
Function: Protects against abrasion.
Location and function of stratified cuboidal epithelium?
Location: Sweat glands, salivary glands, mammary glands.
Function: Protective tissue.
Location and function of stratified columnar epithelium?
Location: Male urethra and ducts of some glands.
Function: Secretes and protects.
Location and function of transitional epithelium?
Location: Lines the bladder, urethra, and the ureters.
Function: Allows the urinary organs to expand and stretch.
