A
Most have no underlying pathology
Secondary to trauma

How to manage epistaxis?
as in just the nosebleed bit
A
firm pressure on cartilaginous section of nose using finger and thumb
lean forward
nose pack or simple gauze

Would the patient need admission?
A
All patients with nasal packing require admission

How would you manage epistaxis with rasied INR?
on warfarin
A
- discuss risks vs benefits of stopping or reversing anti-coag with haematologist or senior
- stop warfarin, give vit K orally or IV
- if severe bleeding, can be supplemented with fresh frozen plasma, or prothrombin complex concentrate
