Epistasis Flashcards
yayy
It is a genetic phenomenon where the effect of one gene depends on the presence of another.
Epistasis.
It is the gene that does the masking.
Epistatic gene.
It is the gene whose effect is masked.
Hypostatic gene.
What is the difference between Dominance and Epistasis?
in DOMINANCE, interaction occurs WITHIN a single gene pair.(intra-allelic).
in EPISTASIS, interaction occurs BETWEEN DIFFERENT GENES. (inter-allelic).
In ________ __________, a dominant allele (e.g., A) at one gene locus masks or suppresses the expression of another gene (e.g., B), regardless of what allele is present at the second gene locus.
Dominant epistasis.
In _________ _________, the homozygous recessive alleles (bb)at one gene locus mask the effect of another gene (C) at a different locus.
Recessive epistasis.
Also called complementary genes, refer to a type of gene interaction where two different genes work together to produce a specific phenotype.
Duplicate Recessive Genes.
