Epidemiology Flashcards
Epidemiology is the study of:
Cause, incidents, source, method of transmission and distribution of disease in a population.
Why are epidemiology studies and reports so important?
They are important in developing programs to aid control and prevention of diseases.
Subclinical or asymptomatic
The animal is infected but no clinical signs develop
Clinical signs or symptomatic
Animal is infected and shows a variety of clinical signs of the disease
Morbidity
And illness or abnormal condition/diseased/unhealthy
Mortality
Death/death rate
Endemic
Disease that is found at a fairly constant, low incidence rate in a population.
Epidemic
Occurrence of more cases of the disease then would normally be expected in a population: an increase in cases
Pandemic
Epidemics that spread to several countries/new continents, which affect large number of animals/people.
