What is epidemiology?
The study of how often disease occur in different groups of people and why.
What is incidence?
Number of new cases of disease occurring in a population
What is prevelence?
The number of cases of a disease present in a population at a specific point in time
What is an endemic?
Always present in a population
What is an epidemic?
Widespreas occurence of an infectious disease in a community at a particular time
What is a pandemic?
An epidemic of infectious disease that has spread through human populations across a large region
What is morbidity?
Illness- rate of illness
What is mortality>
Rate of death ie proportion of those who develop a disease and die from it
What is zoonosis?
A disease, primarily of animals, that is occasionally transmitted to humans
What is a resevoir?
source of viable infectious agents from which individuals may be infected
What is a vector?
Agent able to carry pathogens from one host to another
What is a vehicle?
Non living source of pathogens eg food, water
