Epi/Pericardial Disease (NUR406) Flashcards
NUR406
myocarditis
Inflammation disease of myocardium – muscle layer
Degeneration in necrosis of cardiac myocytes
causes of myocarditis
Viruses
coxsackie virus A&B
Pericarditis
inflammation of pericardium
what develops when fluids accumulate in pericardial sac?
Effusion
what occurs when fluid in sac surrounds whole heart?
Fluid is greater than 200 ML, it will compress the heart leading to Tamponade
Cardiac tamponade
heart chambers are restricted by surrounding Peri fluid, so they cannot stretch and fill with blood
s/sx acute pericarditis
Chest pain– sharp and worsens with deep breath
fever, dyspnea – shallow
Pericardial friction rub
EKG – ST elevations
s/sx Tamponade
Beck triad – hypotension, JVD, muffled heart sounds
Pulses paradoxus
pulses paradoxus
SBP decreases by greater than 10 with inspiration
SBP increases by greater than 10 with expiration
treatment for pericarditis
NSAID S
Aspirin
Corticosteroids
Colchicine
Aspirate fluid
