EPD Flashcards
EPD’s detect Gamma , X-Ray and high energy Beta radiation. What radiation do they not detect?
Hazmat - EPD
Alpha
What measurements does an EPD record?
Hazmat - EPD
Dose rate and absorbed dose
At what absorbed dose should an EPD be taken off the run?
Hazmat - EPD
1 milli Sievert - 1mSv
What sound is alarm 1, and what does it signify?
Hazmat - EPD
Intermittent double fast beep, indicating a DOSE RATE of 100 micro Sievert’s per hour
What sound is alarm 2, and what does it signify?
Hazmat - EPD
Continuous dual tone, indicating an ABSORBED DOSE of 5 milli Sieverts.
What sound is alarm 3, and what does it signify?
Hazmat - EPD
Constant single tone (“flatline”) indicating an ABSORBED DOSE of 100 milli Sieverts.
What is the maximum permissible dose for a FF?
Hazmat - EPD
10 milli Sieverts, this is why alarm 2 sounds at 5 milli Sieverts.
To prevent catastrophic escalation of an incident, or save saveable life, a FF may volunteer to expose themselves to an Emergency exposure. What is this dose and what are the conditions for the volunteer?
Hazmat - EPD
Emergency exposure = 100 milli Sieverts. (mSv)
Volunteer must be male.Female must not be of reproductive capacity, and this should be agreed with OH
What action should be taken upon actuation of Alarm 1?
Hazmat - EPD
Check other EPD’s, withdraw until alarm stops (dose rate of 90 micro Sieverts/hr or lower) and inform IC / Control
What action should be taken upon actuation of Alarm 2?
Hazmat - EPD
Withdraw immediately and consult HMEPO / SA
What action should be taken upon actuation of Alarm 3?
Hazmat - EPD
Withdraw immediately - exceptional dose limit reached.
