Q

Constructive plate boundary?

A

Plates move apart because of convection currents. Magma rises, cools and solidifies to form new land or shield volcanoes (thin runny lava)

Q

Destructive plate boundary?

A

The two plates are moving towards each other and the oceanic plate subducts beneath the continental plate and melts. The now magma rises and seeps thru the cracks in the lithosphere and due to viscous (think) lava a composite volcano is formed

Q

Earthquakes at conservative plate boundaries?

A

The plates are moving in the same direction but at different speeds. So the friction and pressure builds up and suddenly releases, releasing seismic waves causing a shaking ground (earthquake)

Q

2 types of volcano? 3 features for each one

A

Shield volcano:
-formed at constructive plate boundaries and hotspots. -
They are wide, flat
-layers of of lava w gently sloping sides,
-frequent but gentle eruptions
Composite volcano :
-formed at destructive plate boundaries
-steep sided and narrow base
-Layers of ash and lava
-secondary vents
-infrequent eruptions
-explosive reactions

Q

Describe one prediction method with reducing risks with volcanic eruptions

A

TILTMETERS- detects the swelling of the volcano. If the volcano becomes steeper it shows magma is rising and people are warned to evecuate

Q

Impacts of the turkey - Syria earthquake

A

26 million people needed assistance across both countries - medical facilities under stress
Death toll in turkey was 41,000- emotional toll on population
1 million in turkey are living in tents and temporary shelters- economy (workforce)
34.2 billion US dollars for repair-
One of turkeys largest seaports was badly damaged- economy less trading and shipping. Less resources
