A

  • They have images of Guru Nanak but don’t worship him
  • Sikhs should pray at home 3 times a day. There is no set time for public worship but Sikhs usually go to the gurdwara on a Sunday

What is sawm?

A

Sawm is observed during Ramadan. Most Muslims must fast during Ramadan. Muslims are prohibited from sexual activity, eating, drinking, or smoking during this time. Muslims are permitted to break their fast after sunset. Muslims celebrate Eid ul-Fitr, a celebrationat the end of Ramadan, by dressing up and going to the mosque for a specialprayer.

What is Yom Kippur?

A

Yom Kippur is the Jewish Day of Atonement and is the most important holiday in the Jewish calendar. Yom Kippur is a day for repentance and reflection on the previous year. The majority of Jews skip work/school on this day. They don’t eat/drink during Yom Kippur. Jews decide to fast to atone for the sins they have done throughout the previous year.

What is Lent?

A

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a time of sacrifice, prayer, and charity that lasts for around 6.5 weeks until Easter. Christians refrain from eating things like meat, fish,sweets, chocolate, and wine throughout the forty-day period. Christians offer sacrifices in an effort to imitate Jesus’ desert journey, during which he fasted for 40 days and 40 nights. The goal of Lent is to prepare for Easter by prayer and repentance.
