Submarine has Snagged a Fishing Vessel: OOW Initial Actions
a. GENERAL ALARM FMB: “EMERGENCY STATIONS, EMERGENCY STATIONS. THE SUBMARINE HAS SNAGGED A FISHING VESSEL.” b. Order start full records to include: i. time check; ii. start big brother; iii. run LOP; and iv. Record time of incident, position, course, speed, and depth in the Submarine's Log. c. Be ready to communicate on VHF. d. If at periscope depth - order: i. SCOOW to stop snorting/ventilating and broach the submarine; ii. helmsman full rise on the planes; iii. Establish communications with the fishing vessel. e. If deep - order: i. SCOOW half astern reduce speed to less than 1.5 knots; ii. consider fish tailing the rudder; and iii. WSC to load and fire a white smoke. f. If returning to PD - order SCOOW to: i. reduce speed to less than 1.5 knots; ii. reduce upward velocity to minimum; and iii. monitor UWT & TTVC.

Submarine has Snagged a Fishing Vessel: SCOOW Initial Actions
Order: i. stop snorting/ventilating; ii. do not flood the induction system; iii. Do not lower any masts. b. If at periscope depth: i. prepare to broach the submarine; ii. Stand by to establish VHF comms with the fishing vessel. c. If deep: i. select telegraph as ordered to half astern in selected group; and ii. Reduce speed to > 1.5 kts. d. If returning to PD: i. select telegraph as ordered to reduce speed to less than 1.5 knots; ii. reduce upward velocity to absolute minimum; and iii. monitor UWT & TTVC.
