Enzymes in Metabolism Flashcards
Hydrolase
catalyzes the cleavage of a molecule by transferring part of it to H2O
Oxidoreductase
catalyzes an oxidation-reduction between two molecules
Dehydrogenase
catalyzes an O-R reaction involving 2 e- and 1 or 2 H+ between 2 molecules, one of which is NAD(P)H/NAD(P)+
Isomerase
catalyzes intramolecular rearrangement
Transferase
catalyzes the transfer of chemical groups between molecules
Kinase
catalyzes the transfer of a phosphoryl (phosphate) group between two molcules, one of which is ATP
Ligase
catalyzes the joining of 2 molecules in a reaction requiring ATP. Usually referred to as a synthetase
Synthase
catalyzes the joining of 2 molecules to make 1 molecule without ATP involvement
Lyases
catalyze the splitting of 1 molecule into 2 molecules, so opposite of synthases
