Enzymes And Digestion Flashcards
Name three big molecules
Starch, Proteins and Fats
Name 4 smaller molecules
Sugars, amino acids, glycerol and fatty acids
What enzyme converts starch to sugars?
Amylase
What converts proteins into amino acids?
Protease
What converts lipid into glycerol and fatty acids?
Lipase
Where is lipase made?
The pancreas and The small intestine
Where is protease made?
The stomach, the pancreas and the small intestine
Where is amylase made?
The salivary glands, the pancreas and the small intestine
What is the job of the bile in the stomach do?
Bile is an alkaline which neutralises the hydrochloric acid in the stomach allowing the enzymes from the small intestine to work properly.
The bile from the stomach does what to fats?
Emulsifies them
What is the job of digestive enzymes?
To break down big molecules into smaller ones
