Enzymes and Catalysis (Chymotrypsin hydrolysis part) Flashcards

1
Q

What family is chymotrypsin part of and what is it sequence specificity?

A
  • Family: serine proteases; digestive enzyme in small intestine
  • Sequence specificity: hydrolyses on the C terminal side of hydrophobic amino acids (Trp, Tyr, Phe)
    • A related enzyme is trypsin which hydrolysis before basic residues (Arg, Lys)
