Enzymes Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the induced fit model:
A
The substrate has to make the active site change shape.
2
Q
Describe how competitive inhibitors work:
A
- Competitive inhibitors have similar shapes to the substrate molecules.
- They compete with the substrate to bind to the active site.
- They block the active site so no substrate can fit into it.
3
Q
Describe how non-competitive inhibitors work:
A
- non-competitive inhibitors bind to the enzyme away from its active site.
- This causes the active site to change shape so substrate molecules can no longer bind to it.
