Q

Competitive inhibition

A
  • Enzyme binds the substrate or inhibitor but not both.
  • Often resembles the substrate and binds to the active site of the enzyme. Substrate can not bind the same active site
  • ** Competitive inhibitor diminishes the rate of catalysis by reducing the proportion of enzyme molecules bound to a substrate**
  • Can be relieved by increasing substrate concentration

Q

Uncompetitive inhibition

A

Substrate dependent inhibition in that the inhibitor binds only to the enzyme-substrate complex

  • uncompetitive inhibition can be overcome by the addition of more substrate

Q

Irreversible Inhibitor

A

Dissociates very slowly from its target enzyme because it has become tightly bond to the enzyme, either covalently or non-covalently.
