Enzymes Flashcards
1
Q
Reversible inhibition
A
Characterized by rapid dissociation of the enzyme-inhibitor complex
2
Q
Competitive inhibition
A
- Enzyme binds the substrate or inhibitor but not both.
- Often resembles the substrate and binds to the active site of the enzyme. Substrate can not bind the same active site
- ** Competitive inhibitor diminishes the rate of catalysis by reducing the proportion of enzyme molecules bound to a substrate**
- Can be relieved by increasing substrate concentration
3
Q
Uncompetitive inhibition
A
Substrate dependent inhibition in that the inhibitor binds only to the enzyme-substrate complex
- uncompetitive inhibition can be overcome by the addition of more substrate
4
Q
Irreversible Inhibitor
A
Dissociates very slowly from its target enzyme because it has become tightly bond to the enzyme, either covalently or non-covalently.
