Enzymes Flashcards
Beta galactosidase
Breaks down lactose into beta galactose and glucose
Adenylyl cyclase
Converts ATP to cAMP (the second messenger)
DNA Helicase
Unwinds and unzips the double helix
DNA Polymerase
Forms phosphodiester bonds between nucleotides
Primase
Adds RNA primer
Exonuclease
Gets rid of RNA
DNA ligase
Seals up the double helix
Protease
Breaks down protein (in DNA purification)
Carbonic anhydrase
Converts carbone dioxide and water to carbonic acid (in the blood)
Thrombin
Converts fibrinogen into fibrin (insoluble so traps blood cells)
Lysozymes
Break down pathogens etc.
Catalase
Breaks down hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen
Alcohol dehydrogenase
Oxidises ethanol to ethanal and then to ethanoic acid (can be used in respiration with CoA)
Phosphorylase
Causes a aquaporins to move towards the membrane of the collecting duct
AChE (Acetyl cholinesterase)
In the synaptic cleft, hydrolyses ACh into Ethanoic acid and choline (to stop the action potential)
