Enzymes Flashcards
1
Q
How can enzymes lower activation energy
A
- Each enzymes gives the substrate what it needs to react faster, Electrons (pos/neg) , h or oh ions
- Enzymes have a shape that substrates fit into so perfectly, The reaction happens quicker with all the sites of the substrate mobilised , Surface Area
- the Enzymes adds physical pressure by squeezing the substrates for faster reactions
2
Q
Where does a bon competetive enzyme bind
A
Allosteric site causing the conformational change
3
Q
Difference of Binding = Competetive vs non competitive enzymes
A
comp bings temporarily, non comp binds permanantly
4
Q
Whats Vmax and Km
A
Vmax is the maximim ability of the enzyme and the reaction
Km is the affinity between enzyme and substrate
5
Q
Competitive vs jon comp enzymes in terms of Vmax and Km
A
Competitive = enzymes will lower the affinity of enzymes and thus lower km but VMAX REMAINS SAME
non competitive = does not lower affinity because some enzymes still function normally , so km remains the same, Vmax is reduced because some enzymes are useless now
