Q

How can enzymes lower activation energy

A
  • Each enzymes gives the substrate what it needs to react faster, Electrons (pos/neg) , h or oh ions
  • Enzymes have a shape that substrates fit into so perfectly, The reaction happens quicker with all the sites of the substrate mobilised , Surface Area
  • the Enzymes adds physical pressure by squeezing the substrates for faster reactions

Q

Whats Vmax and Km

A

Vmax is the maximim ability of the enzyme and the reaction

Km is the affinity between enzyme and substrate

Q

Competitive vs jon comp enzymes in terms of Vmax and Km

A

Competitive = enzymes will lower the affinity of enzymes and thus lower km but VMAX REMAINS SAME

non competitive = does not lower affinity because some enzymes still function normally , so km remains the same, Vmax is reduced because some enzymes are useless now
