Enzyme Regulation Flashcards
1
Q
Explain the effects of pH on protein function
Give an example
A
- Amino acids make up proteins
- These amino acid have side chains which become protonated or deprotonated
- This influences the interactions within a protein i.e. tertiary structure
- This leads to changes in protein shape, rigidity and therefore function
Protein called talin links actin cytoskeleton to integrin adhesions on a plasma membrane. The lower pH upregulates the function of talin and thus moves cells faster along a cell EHHHH better expl please

Q
How does temperature influence enzyme activity
A
- Trend increases activity until denaturing occurs
- But not all enzymes since some exist and adapted in either hot or very cold environments
