Enzyme Reactions Flashcards
What are the 4 types of Oxidoreductases?
Dehydrogenase, oxidase, oxygenase, reductase
Oxidoreductases does what?
Catalyze redox reactions & transfer electrons between substrates.
Dehydrogenase does what? What class of enzyme is it from?
It adds or removes H, no O2 involved, causes loss of H.
It’s part of Oxidoreductases.
Oxidase does what? What class of enzyme is it from?
H to O acceptor, O2 = electron acceptor forming H2O or H2O2.
It’s part of the Oxidoreductases.
Oxygenase does what? What class of enzyme is it from?
O = added, O in substrate during oxidation.
It’s from the Oxidoreductases.
Reductase does what? What class of enzyme is it from?
O gets removed/ H gets added, reverse of dehydrogenase.
It’s from the Oxidoreductases.
Transferases does what?
Transfer groups (C,N,P,S) between substrates.
What are the 5 types of Transferases?
Kinases, phosphorlyase, aminotransferase, methyl transferase, acetyl transferase.
Kinase does what? What enzyme class is it from?
Transfer Pi from ATP to acceptor.
It’s from the Transferases.
What are the two types of Kinases?
- Transfer among HIGH NRG compounds
2. Transfer phosphate with LOW NRG-forming compounds
Phosphorylase does what? What enzyme class is it from?
Transfer glycosyl residue from starch to Pi.
It’s from the Transferases.
Aminotransferase does what? What enzyme class is it from?
Transfer amine (-NH2) between compounds.
It’s part of the Transferases.
Methyl transferase does what? What enzyme class is it from?
Transfer -CH3, SAM = primary source of CH3.
It’s from the Transferases.
Acetyl transferase does what? What enzyme class is it from?
Transfer acetyl groups, acetyl-CoA is the source.
It’s from the Transferases.
Hydrolases does what?
It adds H2O & catalyzes hydrolysis.
