Environmental Management Flashcards
What are the 3 environmental factors that the ASD typically focus on?
- Waste
- Spillage
- Noise
What is the green wheelie bin at the head of stand intended for?
FOD
What is the red wheelie bin at the head of stand intended for?
POL (Pollutants, Oils, Liquids)
Where are the red bins transferred to when they are full?
A holding area adjacent to RVP South
What is the callsign of the vehicle detailed with collecting FOD from the airfield?
Scavenger
Who are the compactors (positioned airside) intended for use by?
Airline handlers and cleaners
Can Aircraft Catering Waste be disposed of in all airside bins/compactors?
No, it is Category 1 Waste and there are specific regulations on its disposal
Whose responsibility is it to attend airside spillages?
ASD
Who can you ask if you are unsure what a substance in a spill is?
The Apron/Field lead or the AfDM
What are the characteristics of engine oil?
Dark brown or black in colour. It will form a beaded edge and remain thick on the ground. It will stain most surfaces but retains little slip once dried.
What are the characteristics of hydraulic oils?
Golden light brown in color. If touched with gloves, it will be very slippers. It often leaves surfaces very slippery.
It is often found from the hydraulic lifting systems of vehicles or around aircraft components following a hydraulic fail.
What are the characteristics of fuel?
It’s a clear, thin substance which spreads similarly to water. Fuel vaporises which can cause a strong smell.
When mixed with water, it will commonly cause a rainbow effect.
When rubbed on a gloved finger, it will evaporate causing a cold finger.
What method of noise control gives local communities a predictable pattern of noise relief by notifying when aircraft will be arriving and departing certain runways?
Runway alternation
What technique of Arrival Flight Paths reduces noise by reducing engine inputs?
Continuous Descent Approach
How many noise monitors are there deployed outside the airport boundary?
35
