Q

What are the characteristics of engine oil?

A

Dark brown or black in colour. It will form a beaded edge and remain thick on the ground. It will stain most surfaces but retains little slip once dried.

Q

What are the characteristics of hydraulic oils?

A

Golden light brown in color. If touched with gloves, it will be very slippers. It often leaves surfaces very slippery.
It is often found from the hydraulic lifting systems of vehicles or around aircraft components following a hydraulic fail.

Q

What are the characteristics of fuel?

A

It’s a clear, thin substance which spreads similarly to water. Fuel vaporises which can cause a strong smell.
When mixed with water, it will commonly cause a rainbow effect.
When rubbed on a gloved finger, it will evaporate causing a cold finger.

16
Q

What are aircraft required to follow when departing Heathrow?

A

SIDs (Standard Instrument Departures)

17
Q

Are night noise restrictions the same as the night quota?

A

No

18
Q

What time is the night quote in force?

A

2330 - 0600 local

19
Q

What are the 4 holding stacks called?

A

Bovingdon, Lambourne, Ockham, Biggin

20
Q

What does TEAM stand for (in relation to approach patterns)?

A

Tactically Enhanced Arrivals Mode

21
Q

During TEAM operations, how many arrivals can land on the departure runway per hour?

A

6

22
Q

Between what times are commanders of aircraft requested to avoid the use of reverse thrust after landing?

A

2330 and 0600 local

23
Q

What is the order of hierarchy for power supply to an aircraft?

A
  1. Fixed Electrical Ground Power (FEGP)
  2. Ground Power Unit (GPU) when the FEGP is unservicable
  3. Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) when the GPU is unavailable
24
Q

Which Terminal 4 stands are restricted during night quota hours relating to live aircraft movements or activities involving the running of aircraft engines?

A

401-403 and 429-432

25
Q

How is Link 41 restricted during night quota hours?

A

Access and Egress by taxiing aircraft is prohibited unless in an emergency or as a consequence of essential maintenance work

26
Q

Which stands should aircraft arriving and departing T5 during night quota hours utilise?

A

Stands closest to the centre of the site

27
Q

Who approves all idle runs?

A

The Aircraft Operations Units (AOU). Engine start is requested through ATC.

28
Q

Who approves high power engine runs?

A

The AOU can for runs within a pen. The AfDM must approve these within the taxiway system.

29
Q

What is the maximum total ground running exposure time between 2300 and 070?

A

150 minutes

30
Q

What is the maximum amount of ground running exposure time at high power?

A

60 minutes per night, averaged at a maximum of 20 minutes per night over a rolling 30 day period

31
Q

What times are APU/GPU audits carried out?

A

0001, 0200, 0400

32
Q

Where do chemicals used for de/anti-icing shear off to?

A

Surface Water Drainage System

33
Q

Why is glycol dangerous to an aquatic ecosystem?

A

When they degrade, despite being biodegradable, they remove oxygen from the water causing oxygen starvation to other organisms.

34
Q

Can snow that has mixed with glycol be left on the airfield?

A

No, it must be removed from the site and treated
