Environmental Applications II Flashcards
Daily standard lenses
Grey
Brown
Most common lens colors out there
Are all sports glasses polarizxed?
No, sometimes its not a good thing for certain sports
Skiing sunglasses
Bright sun: grey iridium
Sun/clouds: sapphire, jade, torch
Snow/overcast: rose, hi-pink
Non polarized
Mountain and road bikers
Very narrow progressive
-designed to be able to read gauges directly in front of you and then no more add power around it
Football visors
Not Rx Too much wrap causes a fish bowl effect -there are some advances in technology that could allow it -different rules for different leagues -more for colored lenses
Golfer lenses
Very narrow add, only need to see right down to the ball
Brown lens
Not always polarized
Improves contrast to separate colors
Fishing lenses
Different lenses for different types of fishing
Polarized
Most common colors for fishing lenses
Amber and grey
Baseball glasses for day games
Rose base for depth perception and contrast
AR coating and silver flash mirror for glare protection
Baseball glasses for night games
- clear lens
- light amber tint lens for depth perception and contrast
- A/R coating for playing under the field lights
Baseball glasses for day and night
- transition lens that starts with a hint of grey
- A/R coating for playing under the field lights
- hydrophobic coating to repel sweat, water, and dust
Snorkeling and scuba diving lenses
Can do Rx
0 to -8.00
Recreational swimming glasses
- not lap swimmers
- swimmers who want an alternative to going without glasses in the water
- larger lenses
- padded frames
- wide peripheral vision
Racing swimming glasses
- serious swimmers and lap swimmers
- low profile frames
Aqua sphere swimming lenses
Offers Rx lens instead for goggles
Sporti swimming glasses
Designs bifocal goggles
Hilco swimming glasses
Offers positive diopter lenses

- progressives dont work well for shooters, would have to tilt chin up
- same for traditional bifocals
- single vision-target or front sight will be blurry
Hunters and shooters glasses
Reverse bifocal instead on dominant eye
Lens color for hunters and shooters glasses
- yellow and orange increase contrast and depth perception. Brighter the better for ow contrast and near-dark
- light purple enhances orange of a clay target against a background of trees
Occupational lenses
Electrician, plumber, librarian, amazon warehouse employee, musicians, professional painters
ST28 applications
Driving Needlework Artists Shaving TV viewing Fisherman Scuba or snorkel Occupational Hobbies
FT35 application
Kids Clerical Computer users Macular degeneration Drivers
Round bifocal applications
Walking safely
Aesthetics
Golfing
Rimless
Why does the FAA not recommend polarized lenses for pilots?
- could interfere with visibility through laminated windshield
- could reduce or eliminate visibility of LCD instruments
- could reduce or eliminate visibility of instruments with polarization based anti-glare filters
- could masks the sparkle/glare/reflection of light off shiny surfaces (another aircrafts wing)
Glasses for farming
Sturdy frame
Brown tinted lenses/transitions
Flat top 28
Polycarbonate or CR39
This is one situation when glass could be used
Don’t do AR coating because the dirt will destroy it
Glasses for coal miner
Yellow tint
Durable
Glass lenses
Bifocal in the top and the bottom with distance in the middle
Motorcycle glasses
- Wide frame
- Can have full goggles or air vents to avoid fogging
- polarized
