Environment Flashcards
What are the Stewardship attitudes to animals and the environment?
- They have the idea that they have a duty to look after the environment on behalf of God.
- Believe they have to take care of others not just themselves.
What are the Dominion attitudes to animals and the environment?
- They believe in dominance (having power or ruling over something).
- Might not care about the environment as they believe you should do whatever you chose which could be things like eating meat or littering which could kill other animals.
What are the Buddhism attitudes to animals and the environment?
- They believe in kamma (if they hurt animals something bad could happen to themselves but if they help them something good could happen).
- They believe in dukka (if they see animals experiencing dukkha they feel bad and want to help).
- They believe in the sangha (as a community, it was all of us who caused the dukkha and we should be the ones to help).
- They believe in metta (people should be loving and kind towards animals).
- They believe in tanha (we crave things like meat that are harmful to animals).
What are the Hinduism attitudes to animals and the environment?
- Believe killing animals breaks the rule of ahimsa (not killing, respect for life, no hurting, never be violent). Applying the teaching of ahimsa means treating the earths resources with respect and not using more than needed.
- Not eating meat is a sign of religious purity.
- Shivas role is to destroy the earth and it is not our position to help that happen. Shiva is the god of destruction.
- They see everything that happens as a part of natural sequence and they should ‘tread gently on the earth’.
- They might not want to eat meat or hurt animals as they wanted to keep Shambo alive.
What does Genesis 1:28 say?
God blessed them and said to them, “be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground,”
