Environment Flashcards
incendiere
arson
3 modalitati de a spune CO2
carbon dioxide
carbon emissions
carbon footprint
de neoprit
relentless, unstopppable
to interfere, and being destructive
to tamper with sth
overuse of resources
overuse of…

genetically engineered fruits and vegetables (strains)

impact on sth
imp//
destroying the natural habitats
rainforest=lungs of the earth
renewable energy
solar panels, solar energy
wildlife, ecosystem
holes in the ozone layer, acid rains, air pollution, chemical leaks, climate change, drought, global warming,
sth tangled up in plastic

save energy, our planet
show real concern about sth
waste energy/ resources/paper/electricity/water
weaken the immune system
grizzly bears are large omnivores, many of them come near the human settlementslooking for food
photovoltaic panels may be expensive, but when installed on buildings they dont take too long to begin paying their own way
smog cities
photovoltaic panels—- can be used as inconspicous walls or roof tiles
population growth
expunere la radiatii
exposure to radiation
as more people use PV panels, they become cheaper to produce and the amount of clean energy the world produces increases
the good news is
As urban conurbations continue to expand around the world the pressure on earths diminishing wilderness has become critical
a perilous game
the human psyche needs wild spaces too
since time immemorial
women have been concerned about preserving and enhancing their looks, why not try to do the same with our planet
being green can also bring in the green for a business
we are systematically destroying our planet
scorched earth
douse the panic
wilted corps
abysmal weather and consistently high rainfall
paroxysms of panic
Nuclear power looks as if it should be the answer to all our conundrums
nuclear power provides a steady stream of energy, the nuclear reactors emit virtually no carbon dioxide
nuclear power is in many ways dafer than fossil fuel energy
the fact is, it is part of human nature to worry far more about sth that we see as very unlikely but grotesqully horrible than about what we perceive far likelier but much more mundane.
We fear radioactive death, but COCK AN INSOUCIANT SMILE at the risk of dying painfully from the effects of smoking, obesity or alcohol. To that degree, our distrust of nuclear energy is somewhat irrational.
scaffolding (esafodaj)
a temporary structure that is typically made from metal poles and wood planks and used to support construction workers, inspectors, cleaners, and others who need to work at height.
redundancy
man’s interference in nature
earnest
zelos
a rather startling surprise
Startling—very surprising, astonishing, or remarkable.
travel by public transport
insist on organically produced foods
dont use disposable products
ride a bicycle
It is highly likely that houses will become more enviromentally friendly in the future. With the growing awereness of climate change and the need to reduce carbon footprint, there will surely be a swift towards sustainability and green living
some of the most serious environmental problems are air and water pollution, the rise of the sea levels, destruction of the rainforest- the lungs of the planet, destroying the ecosystems, global warming that leads to the rising of the sea levels, threaths to wildlife
5 things the government can do:
–implement and enforce environmental regulations
–invest in renewable energy
–promote sustainable agriculture
–enhance public transportation and sustainable mobility
–raise awarness and educate the public
