Enviromental Change And Management Flashcards
What does ‘Enviroment’ mean?
Conditions of where something lives
What does the word ‘change’ mean?
Things evolving.
Going from one thing to another.
What does ‘Source Function’ mean?
Comes from water, soil, timber, fish stocks, minerals and fossil fuels.
(Natural resources-directly from the biophysical enviroment)
What does ‘Sink Function’ mean?
The earth deals with the waste from humans.
The earth breaks down their waste
What does ‘Global Warming’ mean?
The average temperature of earths climate system is rising
What does ‘Carbon Cycle’ mean?
Carbon goes through a cycles which goes through the biosphere, pedosphere, geosphere, hydrosphere and the earths atmosphere.
What does ‘Ecological Services’ mean?
Beneficial natural process from healthy ecosystems such as purification (water and air) and decomposition of waste.
What does ‘Stewardship’ mean?
Caring for the land and it’s ecological services.
What does ‘Biocapacity’ mean?
Biocapacity is the capacity of an area to provide resources.
Biodiversity
the variety of plant and animal life in the world or in a particular habitat, a high level of which is usually considered to be important and desirable.
Plants
put (a seed, bulb, or plant) in the ground so that it can grow.
Animals
a living organism which feeds on organic matter, typically having specialized sense organs and nervous system and able to respond rapidly to stimuli.
Ecosystems
a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment.
Define Endangered Species
A species that is becoming extinct from destruction of their enviroment
Define Giant Pandas
Giant Pandas are black and white, they are found in forests and mostly eat bamboo
