Enviromental Change And Management Flashcards
Enviroment
The world around us
Define change?
Different from its first form
Consequence
The result of human beings changing the world around us
What is a source function
A source function is all of earths natural resources
What is a sink function?
A sink function is how the earth absorbs all of the gasses safely
What is a service function?
A service function is what the earth can do without human interaction
What is a spiritual function?
The spiritual function is when humans have a connection with the earth and value it very much
Sustainability
It is when a object can stay and provide for its self for a long period of time
Ecological service
Ecological goods and services are the benefits arising from the ecological functions of healthy ecosystems. Such benefits accrue to all living organisms, including animals and plants
Ecological footprint
the impact of a person or community on the environment, expressed as the amount of land required to sustain their use of natural resources.
Biocapacity
Biocapacity is the capacity of an area to provide resources and absorb wastes. When the area’s ecological footprint exceeds its biocapacity, an ecological deficit occurs.
Climate change
a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels.
Enhanced greenhouse effect
The increase in the natural greenhouse effect resulting from increases in atmospheric concentrations of GHGs due to emissions from human activities.
What is space?
A place that surrounds the earth
Define environment?
The environment is the place that surrounds us
