Just like writing addresses on a physical envelope, in EDI, you identify who’s sending and who’s receiving the data.
In EDI, this could be an invoice, a purchase order, or any business document.
You create labels or headers on the electronic envelope, saying things like “This is from Company A to Company B, and it’s an invoice.
You check that everything’s organized properly
you send the electronic envelope with the data to the recipient
The receiver gets the electronic envelope, reads the labels to understand what’s inside, and then opens it to access the data.

Simple
Sender & Receiver - Defining sender and receiver by their unique IDs.
Putting Inside the Envelope - Formatting business documents (like invoices, orders) according to EDI standards.
Labeling the Envelope- Adding header info with sender, receiver, timestamps, and control numbers.
Ensuring Everything’s in Order-Ensuring the data follows specific EDI rules and formats.
Sending the Envelope - Sending the prepared envelope via secure electronic methods (like AS2, FTP).
Receiving and Opening - Receiving the envelope, decoding it, and extracting the data.
Confirming Receipt - Sending back an acknowledgment confirming receipt and processing status.
