enthalpy change Flashcards
what is enthalpy change
enthalpy change is the amount of heat energy that is given out or taken in from the surroundings during a reaction under constant pressure
why does enthalpy change have to occur in constant pressure
if changing pressure it will impact how quickly the products are formed and the yield of the products formed
what are the standard states
298 k and 100 kpa
what is the standard enthalpy change of formation
is when one mole of substances is formed from its constituent elements under standard condition , with all the reactants being under standard state
under standard conditions which 2 elements are liquid
Br2 and Hg (mercury )
what is a combustion reaction
when substance reacts with oxygen to release heat energy
what is complete combustion
when a substance is completely burnt in oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and water
what is incomplete combustion
when a substance is partially burnt in oxygen to produce carbon or carbon monoxide
define standard enthalpy of combustion
is when one mole of substance is completely burnt in oxygen under standard condition
