ENTEROBACTERIACEAE- Salmonella And Shigella Flashcards
What are the distinguishing feature of ENTEROBACTERIACEAE?
Gram (-), Oxidase (-), Catalase (+), Cytochrome c oxidase (-)
Facultative anaerobes, Ferment glucose, Reduce nitrates to nitrites.
Endotoxin and some of it are exotoxin, Antigenes ( O, H, K, Vi).
What are the distinguishing feature of S.typhi?
Gram(-), oxidase(-), lactose(-), H2S(+), urease(-).
Facultative anaerobe, sensetive to acid, highly motile, no animal resorvoir.
Pathogenesis and diseases of S.typhi?
Typhid and paratyphoid fever.
Iliocecal (constipation) — host cell ruffle — M cell(no mucous) phagocyte it — pyres patches — mesenteric lymph nodes — blood.
Pathogenesis of S.typhi?
Blood — septicemia(fever)
Can cause rose spots on trunk and abdomen.
Replicate in macrophages.
Complication of S.typhi?
Necrosis of peyer patches with perforation, thrombophlebitis, cholycestitis, pneumonia, abcsess formation.
How the S.typhi can invades the cell?
M cell adhesion and translocation
Direct invation of epithelia cells
Luminal capture by dendritic cells
Diagnosis of S.typhi?
Isolated from blood, urine, bone marrow, biopsy from rose spots, agglutination detected the antibodies to antigenes.
Prevention of S.typhi?
Sanitation and we have 3 vaccine (strain 21, parenteral heat killed typhi, parenteral ViCPS).
What are the distinguishing feature of S.enteritidis and S.typhimurium?
Gram (-), motile, non lactose fermenting, produce H2S, exsist in enteric tract of human and domestic animals.
Pathogenesis of this subspescies?
Sensetive to acid, endotoxin, no exo, shallow ulceration, invades iliocecal region— loose diarrhea.
What is the first and second most common bacterial cause of Enterocolitis/gastroenteritis?
First — campylobacter
Second — Salamonella
What is the most common cause of osteomyelitis in sickle cell disease?
Salmonella
What are diseases of salmonella subspecies?
Enterocolitis/gastroenteritis, septicemia, osteomylitis
Diagnosis of salmonella subspecsies?
Culture on hekton agar and H2S production
What are the distinguishinf feature of shigella?
Gram (-), non lactose ferment, non motile, exsist in colon, acid resistance, ampicillin resistance.
