Enterobacteriaceae Flashcards
Escherichia coli morphology?
Gram negative
Motile
Non-sporing bacilli
some strains are capsulated
E.coli cultural characters?
Facultative anaerobic
grow freely in ordinary culture media and MacConkey medium they give rose-pink colonies (due to lactose fermentation)
E.coli antigen structures (virulence factors)??
1-O. (somatic) 2-H. (flagellar) “Classified by …. 3- 150 heat-stable somatic O (LPS) 4- 100 heat-labile K (capsular) antigen 5- 50 H(flagellar) Pili
Disease caused by Esch.coli?
1- UTI
2- neonatal meningitis and sepsis
3- peritonitis,pneumonia,wound infection,and appendicular abscess
4- Hospital-acquired infection
5- intestinal E.coli infection (diarrheal disease)
UTI most common in females?
1- women has shorter urethra
2- urethra located near to rectum
Neonatal meningitis?
bacterial infection Known as bacteraemia
Specifically 1- Group B streptococci (GBS) streptococcus agalactiae
2- Escherishia.coli and listeria monocytogenus
