ENT II Flashcards
> 50% of nonsyndromic hearing loss is due to deficiency with what
connexin (GJB2 gene), part of cochlear tissue
what is the difference between OAE and ABR?
ABR can measure both snhl and conductive, OAE only conductive. Both measure higher frequencies better.
what are dental lamina cysts
eruption cysts that develop over baby teeth on alveolar ridges
flesh like/bluish/red/black if hemorrhagic
what is a bohn nodule?
1-2mm asymptomatic white/yellow/gray nodules on alveolar ridge (usually maxillary)
what is a congenital epulus?
single soft nodule over gingival margin that may interfere with breathing or feeding. may need excision.
what are fordyce spots?
hyperplastic sebaceous glands
benign, can be in many places in the mouth
white/yellow, may be in clusters that look like plaques
What’s the difference between snhl and conductive?
Snhl: poor conduction through both air and bone
Conductive: poor hearing through air, bone is good
what are dermoid cysts
derived from ecoderm (unlike teratoma) and may contain hair follicles or glands
what is the epidemiology of cleft lip?
usually isolated. more common in boys, asians > white > AA
what does a black spot on red reflex exam indicate?
congenital cataract
what is pyriform aperture stensosis associated with
single central mega-incisor
