Enroute nav Flashcards
What is the definition of a ceiling?
Lowest layer that is at least BKN or OVC (not SCT, FEW)
What does the DoD Internet NOTAM Distribution System (DINS) cover?
All military, domestic/civil, international, flight data centers
What do “D” series notams cover?
The “D” indicates these NOTAMS are distant or nationwide-they are widely disseminated and meet the same basic requirments as DoD notams; may include enroute navaids, airports, facility data, services & procedures requireing wide dissimination
What can you find in the FIH?
notam abbreviation codes, conversion tables, emergency procedures, lost comm
Where can you find information on how to change a flight plan, change from VFR to IFR, give position reports, change arrival time?
inside back cover of the IFR supplement
What information must you provide to air route traffic control center (ARTCC) when changing a flight plan for weather?
1-point where you start the divert
2-pt where and ETA the route will resume
3-whether you have airborne weather radar
According to the 11-202, when must aircrew review airfield suitability and restrictions reports (ASRR)?
when planning other than volume training LOAs
What is BAM data based on?
predictive bird avoidance model that uses the geogrpahic information system for analysis and correlation of bird habitat, migration, patters, and breeding characteristics combined with environmental and geospatial data to determine the average bird strike
What is AHAS data based on?
Dynamic, near-real-time version of the BAM; continuously monitors/tracks bird activity using filtered NEXRAD weather radar output, NWS forecasts, migratory models, and BAM
If you are cleared for a tactical overhead pattern, what kind of initial should you report?
3-5 mile initial
Where do victor airways exist?
1200 feet AGL up to 17999 MSL in class E airspace
Where do jet airways exist?
18000 MSL up to FL450
Where can you find an aircrew suitability and restrictions report (ASRR)?
Internet access on a government computer (not hard copy or by phone)
What is the difference between a rate and range climb?
Rate- used when you want to minimize the time in the climb to the cruise altitude- use MCT to climb at 220 KIAS
Range-used when min climb range and fuel are not required; it results in a longer time to climb and greater fuel burn
What is the single-engine climb speed?
170 kias
