What is globalisation?
The process of global integration of economies, politics, products, ideas and other aspects of culture.
What is sovereignty?
The supreme power or authority - the authority of a state to govern itself or another state.
What are remittance payments?
Money that is sent somewhere else. It usually occurs when workers send money back to familes in their native country.
What is international migration?
It is the movement across national boundaries.
What is the muscle drain?
Where athletes from developing countries supply the industrialised countries’ markets with talent. E.g. football players moving to the UK for less money than European counterparts.
What is a border?
it is a ‘line’ that seperates two countries, administritive divisions or other areas.
What does it mean to be on a national scale?
It refers to a nation as a whole or an issue or connection with the characteristics of a particular nation.
What is the process of de-skilling?
It refers to the level of skill required to carry out a job or making the skills of a worker obsolete.
What is meant by international scale?
It refers to the whole world; a global concern, the global economy, international boundaries etc.
What is labour?
It refers to any form of work or employment, especially physical types of work.
What is the economic system?
It is a system of production, resource allocation and distribution of goods and services within a society or a geographical area.
What is investment capital?
It refers to funds invested in a firm or enterprise for the purpose of futhering its business objectives.
What does global variation mean?
The extent or degree to which something varies around the world.
What is rural-urban migration?
The movement of people from the countryside to more built up areas (towns/cities). This migration happens internally.
What is the EU’s Schengen Agreement?
It was a treaty which led tp the creation of Europe’s Schengen Area, in which internal border checks have largely been abolished. It was signed on 14 June 1985, near the town of Schengen, Luxembourg.
