What is regeneration?
It is the process of improving a rural or urban place by making positive changes.
Includes redevelopment, renewal and re-imaging/rebranding.
Types of employment.
Part-time, Full-time, Temporary, Permanent, Employed, Self-employed, Freelance, Zero hours contract, Flexi-hours.
What is quality of life?
It is a measure of the well-being and life-satisfaction of people living in a particular place.
What is the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD)?
It is the governments geographical measure or deprivation which takes into account seven types of deprivation and combined then into one index in England and Wales.
What factors does the IMD take into account?
Income, Education, Employment, Housing, Health and Disability, Crime, Living environment.
What is the function of an area?
The activities that take place in a particular area or location. E.g. retail destinations, Food production, Administrative, Mechanisation
What is a demographic change?
A change in the population characteristics of a place. This could be numbers of people or types of people.
What is ethnic composition?
Information about the ethnic characteristics of a group of people.
What is age structure?
The distribution of various age groups in a population.
What is demographic characteristics?
Data about a group of people such as their age, gender or income.
What is gentrification?
Renewal, renovation or rebuilding of older and deteriorating buildings in order to create more up-market places for middle-class residents to live, often displacing poorer residents.
What is studentification?
When an area or place attracts young graduates who are reshaping and rebranding these areas into cultural villages.
What are centripetal forces?
Forces that drew people together from a community.
What are centrifugal forces?
Forces that push people apart.
