Introduces the story’s characters, setting, and situation.
Exposition
The events in a story that lead up to the climax and add to the conflict.
Rising action
The most exciting part of the story, or a better definition, the place in a story when the main character realizes, or learns something.
Climax
The events in a story that lead the resolution.
Falling action
The final outcome of the story.
Resolution
The central struggle between two opposing forces on a story or drama.
Conflict
When a character struggles against some outside force such as another person, nature, society, or fate.
External conflict
A struggle between two opposing thoughts of desires within the mind of the character.
Internal conflict
The methods a writer uses to reveal the personality of a character.
Characterization
When the writer makes explicit statements about a character.
Direct characterization
The writer reveals a character through the characters words and actions through what other characters think and say about that character.
Indirect characterization
A character who reveals several aspects of their personality; the read knows several things about them.
Round
A character who only reveals one aspect of their personality.
Flat
This type of character stays the same throughout the story.
Static
This type of character grows and changes, or learns something during the story.
Dynamic
