Why a shrt story is diff from a novel
- less important characters
- plot is limited novel has a lot of subplots
- short story can read in a short amount of time
First person narration
When the person telling the story is the main character
Hint:narrator says I
Disadvantage: only get to know one characters prepective
Third person narration
The person telling the story is only a narrator not an actual character in the story
Hint: narrator uses she he they
Diva advantage: don’t get to know what characters think or feel
Setting: Time Place Atmosphere With examples
Time: when the story takes place
Ex. The time of day,year,season,past,present
Place: where the story takes place
Ex. City,town,space,jungle,desert
Atmosphere: the feeling of the place has (not ppls feelings
Ex. Spooky,festive,tens
3 types of characters
Protagonist: the character who tires to overcome an obstacle
Antagonist: the character or force the opposite the protagonist
Secondary characters: other characters that the protagonist interacts with the story but we don’t know much about there characters
Characters treats are defined as:
Parts of the personality that make each person unique they determine a persons actions,visual beliefs these do not include feelings or physical appearance
Ex. Stuborn, optismic, selfish,cheerful, selfless
Readers learn about the protagonist characters traits though:
- what the character does
- what the character says
- what the character says about the protagonist
- How the characters are around the protagonist
- what the narrator tells us directly
The ramps steps and definitions
Inciting moment: the point where something changes
Introduction: inturduces the setting
Compaction/conflict: the point where the protagonist ecounters conflict
Rising action: the event that occurs as protagonist tries to fix the problem
Turning point:final point of emotion for the reader
Climax: highest point of emotion for the reader
Resolution: what life is like later for the protagonist
Conflicts

Theme is
The message of the lesson about life that the author wants the reader to learn by reading the story the theme could be about the truth about life
We discover the lesson in the story these 3 ways (theme)
- find a complacation and determine what the conflict is
- Evaulate the Turing point and rising action to see how the characters deal with it
- Evaluate the resitotion and see if the character makes a good decision
