Atmosphere
Talks about the mood that the author made by the setting.
Mood
The feeling the text makes the reader/audience feel. (Anger, happiness, sadness, etc…)
Characterization
The way the author plays out the qualities, habits, and traits of a character. Help the reader understand why the character is the way they are.
Types of characterization:
Direct characterization: author tells the reader about the characters looks and personality
Indirect characterization: author gives information about the character but let’s the reader draw conclusions
Types of characters:
Round characters: are convincing, true to life. Have many different personalities.
Flat characters: stereotyped, shallow, have often one or two personalities
Dynamic characters: undergo some type of change or development
Static: do not change in the story
Types of characters:
Protagonist: Main character
Antagonist: force who opposes the protagonist
What is PLOT
The plot is the plan of action or a sequence of events that happen in the story that happen as the story develops
Plot elements
Introduction: the start of the story.
Rising action: the story of conflicts and crisis in the story.

Climax: at the turning point a decisive change occurs. It’s where the protagonist choices go well or poorly
Falling action: the events and complications begin to resolve

Conclusion: the end of the story
What is conflict?
The struggle or problems involving the main characters in the story
Types of conflicts?
External: a struggle outside one’s self
Internal: a struggle within one’s self
What is point of view?
The angle or perspective from which the story is told
First person
The narrator is the character in the story.
Third person
The narrator is NOT a character in the story
