When using the Comparative, and the adective has 1 syllable, you:
just add ‘‘er’’ to the adjective.
E.G.: Cold = ColdER
When using the Comparative, and the adjective has 2+ syllables, you:
just add ‘‘more’’ or ‘‘less’’ (there are some exceptions!)
E.G.: more attractive, less intelligent, more popular, etc.
When using the Comparative, and the adjective ends in a CONSONANT letter and has 1 SYLLABLE, you:
just double the consonant, and follow the Syllables principle. E.G.: Hot = Hotter
Tall = Taller
(THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS! YOU WILL LERN THEM ALONG THE WAY)
When using the Comparative, and the adjective ends in ‘‘Y’’, you:
Replace the ‘‘Y’’ with ‘‘i’’ and add ‘‘er’’
E.G.: Happy = Happier
IRREGULAR ADJECTIVES for COMPARATIVE, There are 5. These are:
FAR = Farther GOOD = Better BAD = Worse Little = Less Much / Many = More
You cannot use Comparrative or Superlative for absolute adjectives, for example:
PERFECT DEAD ALIVE SPECIAL COMPLETE ESSENTIAL PREGNANT etc.
When using the Superlative, and the adjective has 1 syllable, you:
just add ‘‘The’’ and ‘‘est’’ to the end of the adjective.
E.G.: The biggest, the hottest, etc.
When using the Superlative, and the adjective has 2+ syllables, you:
just add ‘‘the’’ + ‘‘most / least’’ + the adjective in its normal form.
E.G.: The least intelligent, The most attractive
When using the Superlative, and the adjective ends in an ‘‘Y’’, you:
just change the ‘‘Y’’ for ‘‘i’’ and follow the normal rules.
E.G.: Happy = Happiest
When using the Superlative, and the adjective has 1 syllable and ends with a consonant, you:
just double the consonant and add ‘‘est’’
E.G.: The biggest building
