Action verb
a verb that expresses action
Present tense
the tense that is used to refer to events, actions, and conditions that are happening all the time, or exist now
Verbal
a word derived from a verb that functions in a sentence as a noun or modifier rather than as a verb
Participle
a verbal, or a word based off of a verb that expresses a state of being, ending in -ing (present tense) or -ed, -en, -d, -t, -n, or -ne (past tense) that functions as an adjective
Simple subject
a subject that has just one noun as the focus of the sentence
Complete subject
It contains the simple subject - the noun that the whole sentence is about - but it also includes all of the words that modify that noun
Simple predicate/verb
a single word (or group of words if a verb phrase) representing the verb without any of its modifiers
Transitive verb
verbs that take an object, which means they include the receiver of the action in the sentence
Intransitive verb
a verb that doesn’t require a direct object (i.e., a noun, pronoun or noun phrase) to indicate the person or thing acted upon
Complete predicate
all the words in a sentence or clause except the subject and words that describe the subject
Compliment
a word, phrase, or clause that is necessary to complete the meaning of a given expression
