Descriptive words and phrases that recreate sensory experiences for the reader
Imagery
Special kind of contrast between appearance and reality - one is usually opposite of what it seems
Irony
Figure of speech that makes a comparison between two things that are basically unlike but have something in common
Metaphor
A long, uninterrupted speech that is spoken in the presence of another character
Monologue
Traditional story, usually concerning some superhuman being or unlikely event, that was once widely believed to be true. Used to explain natural phenomena
Myth
Seemingly contradictory or absurd statement that may nonetheless suggest an important truth
Paradox
Technique in which a sound, word, phrase, or line is repeated for emphasis or unity.
Repetition
Occurrence of similar or identical sounds at the end of two or more words.
Rhyme
Particularly a cutting irony. Taunting use of praise to mean its opposite- to insult someone or something
Sarcasm
Makes a comparison between two unlike things, using like or as
Simile
Person, place, or object, or an activity that stands for something beyond itself.
