What is a Simile
A simile is where you indirectly compare two unlikely things together using “like” or “as”
Example: The sun look like a ball of yellow butter.
What is Personification
Personification is where you give inanimate (non-living) objects human qualities.
Example: the trees waved in the wind.
What is an Adjective
An adjective is a describing word.
the GLOWING ORANGE sunset fell over the horizon.
What is Alliteration
Alliteration is the repetition of a consonant sound in words with close connection.
Example: Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers.
What is Assonance
Assonance is the repetition of a vowel sound in words with close connection.
Example: the sOUnd of the hOUnd in the pOUnd upset me.
What is a Metaphor
A metaphor is when you DIRECTLY compare two unlike things, sometimes using “is” or “as” (more powerful than a simile)
“The sun IS AN OVEN”. or “the ocean IS A GIRANT WASHING MACHINE”
What is Onomatopoeia
Onomatopoeia is when an action mimics the sound it makes.
Examples: “Bangs” Clicks” “Hiss”
What is Hyperbole
Hyperbole is a form of exaggeration used to highlight a point. (extreme exaggeration)
Example: “you took a million years” “your room looks like a cyclones been through it”
